Raising ducks or other waterfowl species requires proper housing to ensure their health, well-being, and productivity. Building a duck house can be a rewarding DIY project, but it's crucial to consider certain essential aspects to create a safe and comfortable environment for your feathered friends.

1. Size and Dimensions

The size of your duck house will depend on the number of ducks you intend to house. A general rule of thumb is to provide 4 square feet of floor space per duck. Consider the following dimensions for a typical duck house:

2. Materials and Construction

The materials you choose for your duck house should be durable, waterproof, and easy to clean. Common options include:

Ensure the construction is sturdy and secure to withstand weather conditions and protect your ducks from predators.

3. Ventilation and Sunlight

9. Drainage

Proper drainage is crucial to prevent flooding or waterlogging inside the duck house. The floor should be sloped slightly towards the door or a drain hole to allow water to drain out. Install a gravel or sand base underneath the house to improve drainage.
