* Students will be able to sequence the events of the story "The Napping House." * Students will be able to retell the story in their own words. * Students will be able to identify the main characters in the story.Materials:
* Copy of the book "The Napping House" by Audrey Wood * Sequencing cards (pictures of the events of the story) * Paper * Crayons or markersProcedure:
1. Read the story "The Napping House" to the students. 2. Ask the students to tell you what happened in the story. 3. Show the students the sequencing cards. 4. Ask the students to put the cards in order to show the sequence of events in the story. 5. Have the students retell the story in their own words, using the sequencing cards as a guide. 6. Have the students draw a picture of their favorite part of the story.Assessment:
* Observe students as they sequence the events of the story. * Listen to students as they retell the story in their own words. * Look at students' drawings to see if they can identify the main characters in the story.Differentiation:
* For students who are struggling, provide them with more support. For example, you could read the story to them again, or you could help them put the sequencing cards in order. * For students who are advanced, challenge them. For example, you could ask them to write a different ending to the story, or you could ask them to create a puppet show based on the story.Extensions:
