Step-by-Step Instructions:

1.

Cut the Wood:

* Cut the 1x6-inch boards to the following lengths: * 2 pieces at 16 inches long * 2 pieces at 12 inches long * Cut the 1x4-inch boards to the following lengths: * 2 pieces at 12 inches long * Cut the plywood to a size of 12x12 inches. 2.

Assemble the Front and Back Panels:

* Place two of the 16-inch 1x6 boards side by side, with the rough side facing out. * Apply a bead of wood glue along one long edge of each board. * Join the boards together by pressing them firmly against each other. * Secure the boards with 1-1/2-inch galvanized nails, spaced evenly along the joint. * Repeat this process to assemble the back panel. 3.

Assemble the Sides:

* Place two of the 12-inch 1x6 boards side by side, with the rough side facing out. * Apply a bead of wood glue along one long edge of each board. * Join the boards together by pressing them firmly against each other. * Secure the boards with 1-1/2-inch galvanized nails, spaced evenly along the joint. * Repeat this process to assemble the other side. 4.

Attach the Front and Back Panels to the Sides:

* Place the front panel between the two side panels, making sure that the rough side of the front panel is facing out. * Secure the front panel to the side panels with wood screws, spaced evenly along the joints. * Repeat this process to attach the back panel to the side panels. 5.

Attach the Bottom:

* Place the plywood sheet on the bottom of the birdhouse, making sure that the smooth side of the plywood is facing up. * Secure the plywood to the sides of the birdhouse with wood screws, spaced evenly along the joints. 6.

Create the Entrance Hole:

* Using a drill, create a 3-inch diameter hole in the front panel of the birdhouse, approximately 12 inches above the bottom. * Be sure to drill the hole at a slight downward angle to prevent rain from entering the birdhouse. 7.

Add a Roof:

* Cut two pieces of the 1x4-inch boards to a length of 16 inches. * Place the boards on top of the birdhouse, with the rough side facing up. * Secure the boards to the sides of the birdhouse with wood screws, spaced evenly along the joints. 8.

Finish the Birdhouse:

* Sand the birdhouse to smooth out any rough edges. * Paint or stain the birdhouse, if desired. * Allow the paint or stain to dry completely before hanging the birdhouse.

Hanging the Birdhouse:

* Choose a location that is sheltered from the wind and rain, and away from predators. * Hang the birdhouse 6-10 feet above the ground on a tree or post. * Make sure that the entrance hole is facing away from the prevailing wind.

Maintenance:

* Clean the birdhouse once a year to remove old nesting material and parasites. * Inspect the birdhouse for damage and repair any problems as needed. With a little care and attention, your wood duck birdhouse will provide a safe and comfortable home for these beautiful birds for many years to come.
